Show OIL IS STRUCK IN UTAH W'ELL Information received at the Salt Lake headquaarters of the Old Capitol Cap-itol Petroleum company was that oil has been encountered in well No. 1, near Fillmore, Millard county,- the center of the State. The word was from George McCray, field superintendent. superin-tendent. The oil was encountered at a depth of 700 feet. The particulars were not given. In fact, all the message mes-sage contained was that he had shut off the flow of water and that the oil is coming in. Instructions were sent down for Mr. McCray to use his own best judgment judg-ment as to whether or not to continue con-tinue the hole any deeper before testing test-ing out this sand. This oil is all of the high grade parcffin base. . . The oil is found probably in the same sand as that first encountered in the old state well. This is located about six and a half miles distant. There a second sand was struck at 900 and a third at 1200 feet. Manager H. A. McCollem said yesterday yes-terday that the Fillomre country is covered with a bluish gumbo formation forma-tion which is characteristic of the Texas-Oklahoma-Kansas fields. This is so dense that it could readily seal in the oils and gases. He declares that there is no question but that Utah can be made one of the great western oil producing states if the capitalists of the state but put their necessary shoulder to the wheel. That is what is claimed for the Old Capitol, whose officials are putting up the money for the first three rigs and several wells to be drilled as fast as the outfits can be set up.
