Show Death Claims Methodist Pastor by Pneumonia Dr. A. W. Ownby, who only a few weeks since came to Milford as pastor pas-tor of the local Methodist church, passed away at the parsonage manse a few moments before one o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Ownby came to Milford from Salt Lake City, where he had been assigned to some city .charges at the late meeting of the Methodist conference. He had come to Utah only a few weeks before be-fore coming to Milford. He was formerly stationed in Christian work in South Dakota. The Doctor contracted con-tracted a severe cold about a week ago and pneumonia developed which with other complications caused his death after severe suffering for several sev-eral days. He was attended by nurses employed by the local Methodists Meth-odists and by citizens who tendered their services, and everything was done for him possible, but hia weakened weak-ened constitution could not overcome over-come the complication of diseases which followed his breakdown. His sickness and death was particularly sad as no member of his family was present and he was alone among friends of only very brief acquaintance. acquaint-ance. He had in his very brief pastorate pas-torate here made friends among people peo-ple of all shades of religious belief. His recent public reception at the church, the week before Thanksgiving, Thanks-giving, was attended -by a large number and the congregations on Sunday had largely increased. He had made a good impression 'as being be-ing an able, earnest, unostentatious Christian worker. His wife and children were wired of the Doctor's condition early, but owing to the fact, ' as was subsequently subse-quently learned, that Mrs. Ownby was attending her daughter in a Dakota hospital, she was unable to leave in time to see her husband alive. A grown son, Roy Ownby, who is an employe of a railroad company com-pany in Texas, was notified on Tuesday Tues-day of the critical condition of his father. Rev. Ownby was a native of Virginia Vir-ginia and was sixty years old. His body is at the Jorgensen undertaking undertak-ing parlors, where it may be viewed by friends this afternoon. No arrangements for the funeral will be made until the arrival of rel-ativea rel-ativea now on the way to Milford. Instructions, however, , have been received from the son in Texas to prepare the body for shipment to the old home at Winthrop, Iowa. Dr. Lace, in charge of this Methodist district, came from Salt Lake City and arrangements will probably be made for a service at the Methodist church for some time Sunday. Later Word was received Thursday Thurs-day from the family that they would not come to Milford but to ship the body to Iowa. Therefore arrangements arrange-ments were made to hold the funeral service at the M. E. church this afternoon af-ternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Dr. Lace arrived from Salt Lake City this morning to conduct the same, and will accompany the body which will leave on this evening's train for the East. |
