Show PRODUCER VS. CONSUMER THERE are those who are working on the theory that the man who produces is entitled to special favors because he is the whole show; that all else is a side issue. But what would become be-come of the farmer if the non-producing masses suddenly ceased to exist7 What would grain be worth if the farmer had no non-producer to consume? con-sume? Suppose we close every factory in the land, put every man to producing produc-ing his own food, on the theory that industry is illegitimate, and the producer pro-ducer everything. What will become of the farmer ? We mention this be cause we desire to show that the body of the state does not differ one iota from the human body, that the eye must serve the entire body, and in turn is served by all the other organs and ; parts of the body. The feet and the hands and the stomach are not one whit more important than the multitude of holes, called pores, in the skin, or the teeth that masticate the food. Society is a complex mass, and it is right that each class should strive hard for a square deal ; but remember that an injury in-jury to industry is a blow at the farmer's farm-er's markets, and that special privileges privi-leges to any class, producer or consumer, con-sumer, is wrong. Let us stand always for a square deal. Orofino (Idaho) Republican. . rv |
