Conductor Martin and wife went to Salt Lake City last week for a few days' visit. A shipment of ore cars for the Moscow Mining Company has arrived this week for the big mine west of Milford. The Sloan stone warehouse in the railroad yards is receiving a new roof preparatory to housing the products prod-ucts of the soil for the winter trade.' The Jefferson Mercantile Company received a carload of sugar this week and the price advanced 25 cents a sack on Wednesday. A force of six teams and wagons is hauling the iron fluming to Beaver canyon from Milford depot for the new power flume of the Beaver River Power Company. Miss Mabel Merritt is visiting at the home of Mrs. Henry Jefferson. . Miss Merritt is a graduate of a training train-ing course in a well known hospital of Los Angeles. She is soon to make an important business trip to New York. Miss Merritt is the daughter of a former superintendent of the Red Warrior mine. Her father is now manager of large cement works in California. The Utah GoHpel team which has been camped in Milford for some time doing missionary work, will leave in their wagon today for Ka-nosh. A train load of Reo auto trucks passed through Milford the first of the week bound for the Los Angeles market, which, by the way, because of good roads, is the greatest auto market in the world. R. H. Strickland of the Stampede and other well known Beaver conn-, ty properties, was in Milford this week. Mr. Strickland had just returned re-turned from a trip through the Star district and reported considerable quiet activity in that section. Rev. Allison is assisting in a series of tent meetings at Maroni and will not return to Milford until some time next week. There will be no services at the local M. E. church next Sunday excepting Sunday school. George Weston, who has been a faithful employe of the Jefferson Mercantile Company for about four years, left for California this week to help his father in a mining venture. ven-ture. ' Vern Bird gave up his job at Newhouse and came down to take the vacated position of shipping clerk and stock man. The handsome modern residence of Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Brooks is near-ing near-ing completion. The residence is on the hill near the high school and commands a wonderful view of the entire valley and the mountains beyond. be-yond. Mr. and Mrs. Brooks will probably remove to their new home about the middle of August. Five wagon loads of seats and other furniture for the splendid new Mormon meeting house being completed com-pleted at Parowan arrived this week and were loaded on the wagons yesterday. yes-terday. They will arrive at Parowan some time tomorrow. It is a haul of about eighty miles over the excuse for a State highway provided by the State Road Commission. Unless able to show good cause for exemption some of the industries indus-tries of this county will lose a number num-ber of good men and will be considerably consid-erably handicapped for -some time. For instance the Horn Silver mine would lose Claud Thompson, master mas-ter mechanic; Essen Nordberg, book keeper; Dave Jones from the store and a shift boss or two. The mine is already short of help and Supt. Hendrickson is advertising for miners min-ers and muckers. Albert Thomas is now time clerk for the Houghton Construction Company, Com-pany, having resigned his position with the Salt Lake Route some three "weeks since. The Houghton Construction Con-struction Company has several crews of builders at work along the Salt Lake Route south of the northern terminal. At Provo the company is erecting a large roundhouse. Forty miles this side of Caliente there is a crew of thirty men at work on a bridge. The same company is also constructing the big bridge near Delta and has other big jobs in progress. prog-ress.
