Show U. S. IIHI'AHTM EXT OF AGRICULTURE AGRICUL-TURE WEATHER BUREAU Weekly Weather and Crop Summary Sum-mary for Utah for the week ending Tuesday, July 24, 1917. The continued dry hot weather for the past month has largely reduced re-duced the promised yield of wheat. Many of the grains are shrunken, due to too rapid ripening and lack of moisture. A fair crop is still promised, however, and harvesting is becoming general. There were showers show-ers during the past week in beneficial amounts in portions of Millard, Sevier, Se-vier, Garfield and San Juan counties. The commercial fruit crops are fair to good. The heavy .drop, due to cold and wet weather during the blossoming time, reduced the yield. The Provo district reports that fruits are in good condition at present, except ex-cept that apricots and plums are not developing as they should. Peaches especially are a light crop in Utah county. In Bear River and Cache valleys the 'drop was heavy, but the crop is making satisfactory growth now. and promises to be above the average. The southern counties and the Uinta Basin report excellent crops of fruit. Alfalfa is in excellent condition everywhere, except that some injury by grasshoppers is reported from Juab and Millard counties. Beets, potatoes and tomatoes are doing fairly well, though the weather has been too warm for the best development de-velopment of potatoes. J. Cecil Alter, Meteorologist. a |
