Show . -n Ruminatiri M Roundabout In which Ruminator proposes to dream a lot, think as little as necessary, scatter a few bouquets bou-quets while their objectives are still above the sod to enjoy them, and fire a hot-shot now and then while said Ruminal or can enjoy seeing the sparks fly. The King is dead! Long live the King! And thus we salute, quite properly, we think, the loved deceased de-ceased British monarch and his equally loved successor, the former for-mer Prince of Wales, goodwill emissary extraordinary. Though here's hoping he will, have better luck atop the throne than he hap had at times astride his hosses. And such a wish may not come amiss since, but for the British love of loving its royal rulers, his place as little more than a figurehead under the present order or-der of things might not be too secure in the decidedly insecure world of today. But, to get back across the ocean where all good Americans belong It seems that some of our readers read-ers were not quite clear or pretended pre-tended not to be as to whom our broadside of last week was leveled at. So, to clear up any misconception, misconcep-tion, we shall not mince matters but tell you it was the local J. C. Penney store which distributed the 'Denver-printed advertising sheets which inadvertently carried the Denver imprint and thus gave away the disloyal tactics of this outfit and opened themselves up for a lambasting they have richly deserved for some time! In fairness, however, to another local store which is compelled to use a certain amount of Salt Lake-printed advertising matter by reason of its associated buying connections, we are happy to say that this firm (Jefferson Mercantile Mercan-tile company) has never for a single week let down on its supplementary sup-plementary advertising in The News, while the local printshop has always had the printing of stationery and other items for the store and for affiliated concerns. Which is one of the bright spots in our efforts at running a creditable credit-able newspaper in Milford. With the tactics of the Penney Pen-ney outfit quite the reverse! Why, considering the amount of business done, Kay Suyefusa, the little Japenese restaurateur, is ten times the loyal patron of the home town printshop and paper that the yellow-fronted outfit across the street has proved to be! Fortunately, all chain concerns are not of this type. Notably the Safeway store which was here for five years and which spent every cent of its advertising appropriation appropri-ation at home. And when that store left town, due to not being able to effect a satisfactory renewal re-newal of its lease, your local newspaper the only paper in the world primarily interested in your town lost an annual income of approximately $400! Is it any wonder that the newspapers are loyal to the Safeway organization? organiza-tion? Confidentally, we are rather disposed to believe that it is the local manager rather than the great J. C. Penney organization that's responsible for the local situation, for, in most of the other places of which we have knowledge, know-ledge, a J. C. Penney store in a town is considered a big asset to the local newspaper and the com-, munity alike. Hnd we depended on the promises prom-ises of the local J. C. Penney manager which very, very seldom sel-dom materialized and there had not been the general improvement of conditions, and gratifying increase in-crease of income from outside sources qbmbined with appreciated appre-ciated consideration from our creditors the genial but heavy-handed heavy-handed representative of the Beaver county shrievalty, our friend Niels Jensen, might have had a splendid opportunity to bloom forth, momentarily as a newspaper owner! But happier days seem to be here again and despite the., trade- away- from - home policy of the yellow-fronted local stare or its manager whichever may prove to be at fault! |
