Show All Library Bids Rejected Monday By Town Board Caught in a congestion of W P A projects in the state, coincident with the approaching deadline set for work to get underway, Milford's new library building project was the victim of high bidding Monday Mon-day morning and actual work on the building will be a matter for the future to take care of. Five bids were on file Monday Mon-day afternoon wren the Milford town board of trustees convened con-vened for the purpose of considering consider-ing offers, but all were from $2500 to $4000 higher than the funds available fcr the. project. Carl W. Scott, of the firm of Scott & Welch, Salt Lake achi-tects, achi-tects, who also are architects for the county board of education in connection with the new building and remodeling program underway at Milford and Beaver, was present at the meeting. This firm had drawn up plans for a 'building which they had expected; would come within the $13,900, approximately, approxi-mately, at which figure the project had been set up. In order to hold the W P A appropriation ap-propriation until such time as the plans can be revamped and bids re-advertised, it was decided to, let bids for the excavation work ind this was done, with three informal in-formal bids being tendered, the award going to Vernon C. Tolboe cf ' Provo, who has the contract for the school work and who, it was thought, would be in an excellent ex-cellent position to make a low ,bid on the library building. As to was, Tolboe was more than a thousand dollars higher than the low bidder. The highest bid was that tendered tend-ered by Groneman & Co. of Provo, whose figure was $17,890 for the complete job. Others, in order, were as follows: Llyod HoUbs of Nephi, $17,869; Vernon C. Tolboe, Provo, $17,447; Memmott & Ras-mussen, Ras-mussen, Provo, $16,777; John Okland, $16,348. It is understood that H. C. Brad-field, Brad-field, local contractor, had a bid that was lower than any other prepared for presentation, but was disqualified for lack of the necessary neces-sary certified, cheek. Tolboe was awarded the 'contract for excavating on a bid of $1 a icubie yard, Hcfobs of Nephi bidding $1.21 and Bradfield $1.30. o |
