Over $G00 was netted, the money to be used to start work on a city park. ! The choicest of theatre enter-1 tainment was to be offered the! Milford public with the installation; of sound pictures at the Orpheum theatre. Manager Lorin Osborn j had reported that such pictures as "Coquette," "Alibi", "My Man" and "In Old Arizona" would be shown, and such stars as Mary Pickford and Fanny Brice would be seen. Clark Kesler had been making quick headway with his new theatre thea-tre under construction. The front part of the building, known before as Johansen's pool hall, had been torn away and remodeling had begun. be-gun. Kesler was to bring the Vitaphone to Milford for the first time. On the evening prior to the departure de-parture of Mrs. Alyce Ashworth for her home in Los Angeles, a shower had been given for her at the home of Mrs. Jeanette Kohler with Mrs. John Ashworth and Miss Delia Kirk assisting. The following "squibs" were teTcen from the Salt Lake Tribune. In observing its 58th anniversary; the Tribune published items from its files of years before. Here are a couple published in The Milford News of April 26, 1929: Frisco, May 17, 1880 The first passenger train over the Utah Southern extension ran into Milford Mil-ford Sunday night, May 15. Shauntie, September 25, 1876 Milford is the name of the new town being built on the Beaver river, six miles from the Star district. It has one quartz mill running and an extensive smelter under construction. A marriage license had been issued is-sued at Parowan to Edward Harry Martin and Elizabeth Weidner of Milford. Crude oil produced by the Utacal company at Virgin was to be used as fuel oil for heating the school buildings at Beaver and Minersville. The school board had figured to make a cut of at least 20 percent in heating the buildings by this method. v |
