Show With the Colors Apparently authentic confirmation confirma-tion has been received locally of the death in action, presumably in New Guinea, of Ted Weber, son of Mr; and Mrs. J. T. Weber, now living in Artesia, California but former residents of Milford. A 1941 graduate of the Milford high school where he was a star athlete, and former student at Utah State college., Ted is believed to have gone into the infantry from R O T C training at the Logan school. Word from the war department de-partment is reported to have been received April 26 by the family, but we are hopeful of having further fur-ther information for next week's issue of The News. This is the third Milford boy to be killed in action al from South Milford. Mr. and Mrs. M. P. Lewis Thursday Thurs-day morning received a cablegram cable-gram from their son. First Lieutenant Lieu-tenant David E. Lewis, stating that he had completed his "tour" and to send him no more mail at his old address. Lieutenant Lewis, navigator of a Flying Fortress based in England, began combat flying last October, shortly after his arrival overseas, and was "in" on some of the toughest missions of the early air blitz over enemy territory, including the first Schweinfurt raid, when 60 bombers were lost, a record loss for that phase of the air war. Until recently, re-cently, the tour of duty for heavy bombers operating from England was 25 missions- but this was raised recently to 30 and it is believed be-lieved Lieutenant Lewis' tour was 27 missions, on a pro rata basis. Mr. and Mrs. G. Carl Goodwin this week entered a subscription for The News to go to their son, Pvt. Jaclk B. Goodwin, who has been given an assignment as Liberator mechanic at the army air base at Muroc, California. He has been located at various places in the past, but figures he will be fairly permanent in his new location. lo-cation. Another new subscriber is that of Mr. and Mrs. C. Tom Martin for their son, Aviation Cadet Robert Ro-bert R. Martin, who has just begun be-gun advanced flying training at La Junta army air field Colorado, following completion of basic training at Lemoore, California. |
