Show WATER USERS WILL FIGHT FOR RIGHTS l8IST THAT WATER DISTRIBUTION DISTRIBU-TION BE CONTROLLED BY THOSE ACTUALLY FARMING UNDER THE SYSTEM. Claiming unfair distribution, resulting re-sulting in a serious .curtailment of the water supply for irrigation, farmers under the Delta Canal Co., have organized to fight for their rights as guaranteed them under the Carey Act. The Canal company is controlled by non-residents, who do not use the water, and it la claimed that more stock is being sold than there is water available, resulting in a shortage of water to farmers entitled to same. The committee, composed of W. W. Perkins, E. D. Cady, John Wind, Earl F. Seams and Wallace Holman, are endeavoring to raise funds to prosecute suit against the canal company, com-pany, to secure what they claim to be their Just rights. The land is a Carey Act project, and according to a ruling of the state land board, is entitled to one and one-half acre feet of water tor the settlers demand as their right, and they are seeking to restrain the company from seling water that will reduce that amount. At the anual election, which will be held next January, the farmers will endeavor to elect from their number, sufficient directors to place the distribution of water in their control. Farmers representing twelve , thousand shares of the company's stock have Joined the organization and have promised to pay one dollar per share to prosecute the suit. |
