In almost al-most every case when there Is a reasonably rea-sonably big crop to move Is absolutely absolute-ly breaks down. Here Is what is going go-ing on right now in Florida, as told by a writer for the Gleaner, who is traveling in that state: "Talk about grapefruit and oranges! or-anges! Here you find them by the wagon load. Trees hanging full-truly, full-truly, nature has dealt all too bountifully boun-tifully with her subjects. 'Grapefruit, nice large grapefmit; only 15 cents a dozen,' was the cry of a vender on the streets of Bardentown this morning. morn-ing. 'Oranges, oranges, nice upriver oranges, 1 cent apiece, 80 cents a hundred," was the cry I heard at Jacksonville. The orange and grapefruit grape-fruit growers of Florida are simply passing through the same experience as our Michigan apple growers passed through last fall. Thousands of crates of grrvpefruit went to waste In Florida during April. Thousands of crates of oranges fell from the trees and rotted on the ground during the same time. Grapefruit and oranges or-anges these delicious fruits from the tropics rotting on the ground can it be possible? Yes. and why not? The apple is the most delicious fruit on earth, and hundreds of bushels rotted on the ground right in Michigan last year. Then why not oranges and grapefruit In Florida? But you say: 'I haven't had enough grapefruit or oranges: or-anges: they are still expensive In the North.' It's the old. old cry: 'Water, water everywhere, and not a drop to drink.' Some day a solution for this problem of dis-iributlon will be found, and then overproduction will no longer appear as the skeleton at the feast."
