Show Takes Exceptions. Delta, Sep. 25, 191G. Editor Millard Co. Chronicle. Dear Sir: As there seems to be a disposition on the part of the Woodrow correspondent to mislead the public as to the true conditions in that place, I wish to make the following statement. In the first place the order for trees spoken of, was never annulled an-nulled by the present Board of Education nor any of its members, mem-bers, on the contrary J. J. Clark was told that when the trees came to have the public turn out and plant them and the board would pay for them. That seemed fair to the people of Woodrow and also to the County. This co-operation has been done in nearly all the districts in some form or othet. The well was provided by the board, also a forty foot culvert to convey the surplus water across the road to a borrow pit where it was said no one wculd be damaged. If this arrange.-ment arrange.-ment is not satisfactory it is not the fault of the board, as they have done all they have been asked to do regarding the matter. mat-ter. There is a regular way of getting supplies and repairs, and that is by the principal sending in a requisition to the board and until that is done, it ill behooves your correspondent to attack the board. There is a great "deal of difference dif-ference between communities. Some have furnished the trees, planted them, fenced the lot and in fact spent about $500.00 in cash and "labor and presented it all to the board free of charge, while others let their children play in the streets rather than turn out and rail off a play ground for them. Some people will do things cheaper if it is for the school and others would ask $8.00 per cord for wood because the County was paying for it. I realize that it is impossible to please everybody, but the Board of Education has always invited in-vited the co-operation of citizens and teachers for the welfare of the school, and when conditions are not all that you would like, they want to hear from you. I do not think, however, it shows good taste to take snap judgements judge-ments and publish it ,as truth. It looks as if it were done for effect. J. Avery Bishop. |
