Show The Livestock Show Responsibility Since holding the recent Millard County Junior Livestock show, a number of comments have come back to the County Agent's office regarding the Show. Some of these comments have been favorable favor-able but most have been unfavorable. unfavor-able. As far as money is concerned, the show was a huge success. Money Mon-ey however, is not the important thing that a Stock Show is held for. The importance of a Stock Show is the training and developing of boys and girls for a more useful citizenship. Shows are held to exhibit ex-hibit the results of project work. The purpose of the project work is to train boys and girls to do a better agriculture job. Honesty, fairness, good sportsmanship and character should be the results for the boy or girl. If the boy or girl is not trained properly, the fault is mostly the parents. Surely the responsibility of seeing that the boy or girl does his or her own project work is the parents. If the parents think more of the dollar than training their own boy or girl, it is hard for the stock show committee to correct this weakness. Livestock men of the County should see the show as a means of improving the livestock industry. They are responsible as much as the leaders to see that a boy or girl has quality animals to begin with. Parents don't think too much of their children and project work, if they want to discourage them j by giving them a poor quality animal an-imal to start with. You don't have to have purebred animals, but certainly cer-tainly a boy or girl has enough quality in them to demand a good animal to start with. This is a parents par-ents responsibility. Will the Millard County Junior Livestock Show continue to grow and serve its purpose if the parents par-ents and the livestock people don't take more interest? There is a banged up interest the day after the show. There isn't too much interest in-terest at the begining of the project pro-ject work in the fall of the year. Parents, livestock growers and the stock show committee, must give some thought to the size of the project a boy or girl must have. In the future, a limit must be placed on the number of animals ani-mals any boy or girl can show. It maybe necessary to limit the number num-ber that can be shown by anyone family. The quality of the animal that goes through the show must be determined and decided upon by the stock show committee. The pracice of buying out of one show to show at another show, must be stopped. Commercialization must be taken out of our show or it will die rapidly. These are things for those who are interested in our stock show to think about for another an-other year. 89100ths of an inch of rain on the 28th. .08 the day before and .08 the day after.
