Show Capt. Blaine Sampson Writes Home from Japan Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Sampson had a letter this week from their son, Capt. Blaine Sampson, written from Japan, where he has been for the past four months. He enclosed en-closed a clipping from a Japanese newspaper, showing a picture of him shaking hands with Captain Greashom, and the translation of the Japanese into English reads- "First time in several years Nag-oya Nag-oya Harbour was Busy Scene"! 1st American treasure ship with full load of godsend wheat on SS "Robert M. La Follette" with Capt. Greashom. Ready to sail back to State after unloading wheat for starving Japanese. Jap-anese. Capt. Greashom bidding farewell to Capt. Sampson, Chief of Supply and Welfare Section of 30th Military Govt.. 2nd treasure ship SS "Sturgis" with Capt. Mar-thews Mar-thews just dropped anchor in Harbour." Har-bour." Capt. Sampson wrote his parents of his numerous duties in Nagoya, saying "As Nagoya is a one man port, I had to supervise unloading the ship. I have 6 more yet to come in. No small job in itself, and I have to do it "in addition to other duties", an old well-known army term. He is expecting his wife, Mrs. Eleanor Sampson and their son Richard, now nine months old, to join him there about July 6. Mrs. Sampson and the baby have made their home in Seattle during his absence, and plan on visiting Delta, Del-ta, for the first time here, before departure. Capt. Sampson also wrote that he was sending his mother a gift, a 93-piece set of chinaware, from Japan. |
