Show County Agent's ... Column Livestock Population Utah's cattle numbers on January Janu-ary 1, was 515,000 head. Twenty-nine Twenty-nine thousand more than on January Jan-uary 1, 1943. Milk cows on January Janu-ary 1 numbered 121,000; 4,000 more than a year ago. Sheep numbered 2,429,000; 92,000. head less than a year ago. Hogs on January 1 numbered num-bered 229,000 head; 54,000 head more than a year earlier. Chickens numbered on January 1 were 2,-981,000; 2,-981,000; 318,000 more than a year earlier. Turkeys on January 1 numbered num-bered 440,000. This is 330,000 more turkeys than a year earlier or four times as many as we had a year ago. Note this increase in numbers. How does your own herd or flock compare wtih a year earlier? Do you have feed supplies and range sufficient to properly care for your livestock numbers? Farmers should by all means, begin to think in terms of balancing livestock numbers num-bers with the year round feed supply- Mobilization Week Comes on March 4-12 for State 4-H Youth Playing an even mfjre important role than in past years, National 4-H Mobilization Week comes on March 4-12. In addition to reaching young people who are members of the national youth movement, mobilization mobili-zation week will attempt to acquaint ac-quaint the American public with the work being done each year by the members and their leaders. Four purposes were outlined in Washington headquarters of the club, which will be met in activities activi-ties of the week. First, 4-H members mem-bers will be provided an opportunity opportun-ity to check their efforts to date in helping to win the war, with the 4-H goals already set up. Second, Sec-ond, every member will be given a chance to reaffirm his intention of carrying his goals to completion, comple-tion, especially those affecting food production, conservation and health. The third point will work to encourage every 4-H member to assume responsibility for enrolling at least one new member and helping him to get started in the local club. Fourth, the results of 4-H club work will be publicized from the standpoint of the nation, state, county and local community, so that the general public may be adequately informed regarding the far-reaching importance of 4-H clubs in helpng to win the war. Nationally, a message by President Presi-dent Franklin D. Roosevelt to all 4-H members will be given. This is the great rural youth organization or-ganization headed by the Department Depart-ment of Agriculture. This is the great national organization in which boys and girls enroll in project proj-ect work. Mr. and Mrs. Edwin F.
