Show Young Navigator Receives Wings at Texas ( 1. ; LT. SHIRLEY BISHOP Hondo Army Air Field, Tex. Hundreds of eager young Americans, Ameri-cans, after 18 weeks of rigid training train-ing as navigation cadets at this installation of the AAF Training Command, proudly pinned on silver sil-ver navigator wings when they received re-ceived commissions as either sec-1 ond lieutenants or flight officers during commencement exercises this week. The impressive wing-pinning ceremony ce-remony signified to the new navigators navi-gators that now they are ready to do their part in obliterating the enemy. Most of the officers have already departed to join the other members of the all-out bombing team-gunner, bombardier and pilot. pi-lot. Some of the graduates will remain re-main here to instruct new cadets just entering navigation training. Shirley Bishop, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray S. Bishop was in the graduation gra-duation class of February 26 at Hondo Army Air Field. Sg. Allan Briggs has been shipped ship-ped overseas and word comes that he has arrived safely at his destination. des-tination. Val Gene Black visited his parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. Nels Black last week end. He is at the University of New Mexico being trained in engineering for the Navy. Miss Kathryn Knapp, who was County Public Health nurse in Millard Mil-lard a few years ago, is now a nurse overseas in Hawaii, serving with the armed forces. Floyd C Bishop is at San An- V tonio, Texas, taking cadet train-', train-', "S 'n aviation. ' Joseph Christensen is stationed now in the SW Pacific; he writes that movies are now being presented pre-sented to them for the first time, and other means of recreation and entertainment. Tech.-Sgt. Edward Christensen is with the Army Band at Pyote, Texas, reports the bandmaster stationed at the 72Sth Army Band crew training school; the band is comfortably housed, in air conditioned condi-tioned buildings; there are church services for all creeds. Says the Bandmaster: "I feel that T-Sgt. Edward Christensen is not only serving his country well here. but. is also learning much that will be useful to him after the war." Cadet Gordon Edwards is home on furlough from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Roysten Western, who is in the U. S. Army is spending his furlough fur-lough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse W. Western. T-Sgt. Grant Workman has been home on account of the serious illness ill-ness of his father, M. II. Workman. Mr. Workman is in the Veterans Hospital in Salt Lake City very ill. Mrs. Workman is in Salt Lake willi him. Home on furlough are Verdon Blake, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Blake, Jr., and Maj. Milton Knight, son of Mr. & Mrs. Samuel Knight. |
