Show Marines Still Receiving Christmas Mail Bougainville (Delayed) Civilians Civil-ians shouldn't complain if the mail delivery at home is a little slow these days. Marines stationed on this Pacific island are still receiving Christmas packages and cards despite the best efforts of the Leatherneck postal unit of which Pfc Elvin M. Anderson, Oasis, Utah, is a member. mem-ber. Andreson and 16 fellow workers sorted and distributed 437,000 letters, let-ters, 12S.300 packages and 5,470 V-mail V-mail letters to the men of the First Marine Air Wing during the Christmas Christ-mas rush. And, according to the men, the 0 job is not yet completed. Christmas Christ-mas cards are still coming in and and several expected packages Jfcaven't arrived yet. s To handle the overflow of mail, the Marine postal clerks worked 14 hours a day, seven days a week for three and a half months. Anderson is the son of Peter Anderson, An-derson, of Oasis. He enlisted in July, 1943. |
