Alvin Carpenter, State Labor Supervisor. Most schools will soon be closing clos-ing for the summer, and students will be looking for work. By contacting con-tacting their school representative of the Victory Farm Volunteer Program, they will be able to sign up for summer work, and will be called to active duty on the farm front as soon as crops are ready. Mr. Carpenter states that although al-though Mexican national and some Japanese labor will be utilized this summer, there will be large requirements re-quirements for labor from other sources, and school children, business busi-ness men, and housewives are all urged to sign up for farm work. Last year, more than 20,000 youth responded to assist Utah farmers. In 1944 approximately 25,-000 25,-000 will be needed to do the work. Boys and girls from towns and cities, cit-ies, from high schools and colleges, from Boy Scout troops, boys' clubs, church groups, 4-H clubs and FFA associations will be needed. A large number of applicants for farm jobs will be required to give farmers assurance that the crops they are planting now will be well cared-for, and harvested this summer sum-mer and fall. In Utah, youth may sign up either through their schools or the offices of County Extension Agents. County agents will have application blanks for all citizens who wish to apply for farm work. |
