SAMUEL CHYNOWETH The commanding officer at Avon Park, Florida, telegraphed Mr. and Mrs. William Chynoweth Tuesday that their son, Lt. Samuel Sam-uel Chynoweth was missing on a training flight in Florida. He stated that a search was being made and that the family would be notified of any developments. Lt. Chynoweth had written his parents just before the flight saying say-ing how much he liked his training train-ing and how well he was doing. He said that he had been on a number of training flights and had a little navigation training to do before he expected to see active duty on some war front. He wrote of taking a group of bombardiers on a low level training flight a-bout a-bout 20 feet ofLthe ground which he said was very interesting. He also said that he had been honored to lead a group of B-17 bombers on a practice bombing mission that had been photographed photo-graphed for the newsreel and v hoped that his folks would be able to see that particular newsreel. Sam joined the air force in June, 1942, and went first into glider training. He completed this and then took up further training as a pilot of a B-17 Flying Fortress. He had been in this training for a-bout a-bout ten months at the time he was reported missing. He had been here on a furlough about two months ago at the same time his brother, Reuben was on furlough from the Navy. Rueben is now at sea and can not receive word of the accident. Everyone wishes for the best and hopes that the crew is safe and will be found within a short time. |
