Show Short in Wiring 31 akes Short Trip Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Sorenson and daughter, Carol Dawn, left Delta Monday afternoon, headed for Salt Lake City for a visit of several days. They were accompanied by Mrs. Thelma Black and daughter, Bonnie Black, and Jessie Lynn Cook. Out of Eureka Eldon had a little difficulty with the car, from what may have been a short in the wires, but as it seemed to be corrected, cor-rected, they sped on. A half mile from Santaquin a black cloud of smoke puffed into the car and they came to an abrupt halt, to find paint on the dashboard blistering with heat, the radio and keys melting, melt-ing, and the windshield cracking. The passengers were out at once, and Eldon turned off the ignition, and tore a few wires loose, burning burn-ing his hand. Even so the heat was so intense the car lights went back on and the motor started. Help soon arrived, the first car being that of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer McClellan, returning to Salt Lake City after a visit in Delta. No water was at hand, but soon arrived, ar-rived, literally by buckets full by residents of Santaquin, in cars, a-foot, a-foot, horseback and on bicycles. The Santaquin fire department had a dead battery, and was towed to the scene, by which time the threatened fire was put out, and no one hurt. With the crowd was Curt Shields, returning to Delta with an empty car, so he brought home Mrs. Black and the three girls. Mr. and Mrs. Sorenson went on to Salt Lake with the McClellans. The car was taken into a Provo garage for repairs. |
