BENNETT John Randall Bennett, pioneer merchant and farmer of Deseret, died Tuesday, June 8, at the age of 82 years, at the home of his son, J. A Bennett, of Deseret, of causes incident to age. Mr. Bennett has lived the greater great-er part of his life in Deseret, coming com-ing there as a small boy with his parents, among the first 15 families to settle there. He was born in Salt Lake City Oct. 23, 1865, a son of Joshua and Isabelle Holt Ben- sett. As a youth he attended the BYU, under Dr. Carl G. Masher. He married mar-ried Margaret Cahoon Oct. 9. 1884, in the old Endowment House in Salt Lake City. She died May 25, 1933. He was always active as a mem- ber of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and had served serv-ed in many capacities. From 1901 to 1903 he served on a mission in the central states. He was a teacher teach-er in the Sunday School for 23 years, and was a counselor under Bishop Joseph Damron for 13 years. Mr. Bennett was a man of high principles and qualities that inspired in-spired trust in all who knew him. As a civic leader he was called upon many times to work on civic enterprises, and his wisdom and guidance were always available to benefit the community. He is surivived by four sons and a daughter, J. A. Bennet, Jerald Bennett, and Lawrence Bennett, of Deseret; Mrs. May Petty, Nephi, and Leslie Bennett, Salt Lake City; 21 grandchildren and 29 greatgrandchildren; great-grandchildren; and the ' following brothers and sisters; William Bennett, Ben-nett, Delta, James Bennett, Ben Bennett, Tooele, and Mrs. Fannie Hunt, Burley, Idaho. Funeral services will be held in the Deseret ward at 2 p. m. Saturday, Sat-urday, under the direction of L. N. Nickle and sons, Bishop Ormus Dutson officiating. |
