Show IIIIS Students Rate High At Music Festival Nine numbers In Vocal music were entered by Ladd Cropper in the regional music festival which was held in Fillmore, Friday, March 5, with all numbers receiving outstanding out-standing ratings, the judging being be-ing done by Professor Manning of the B. A. C. The ratings as given are: Highly Superior, Superior; Excellent, Good Fair and Poor, in the order mentioned. men-tioned. The male quartet, consisting of Lester Hepworth, Alva Young, Bur-on Bur-on Robinson and Darrell Allred was rated as Highly Superior and Mr. Manning gave his congratulations on a splendid quartet, commenting on the splendid tone quality and the good balance and phrasing of this quartet. They sang "Sea Gypsy". A double mixed quartet, composed com-posed of the above named boys and Elva Webb, Joyce Wood, Lola Wright and Joy Stewart was rated as Highly Superior and Professor Manning remarked upon the fresh voices of such fine quality, adding that the song moves very refresh- j ingly. They sang, "I Hear Your Voice". A third Highly Superior was given giv-en to Alva Young on a Bass Solo, 'Open the Gates of the Temple", with special comment being given on the uniformly good quality thru-out thru-out his register, and strength and sincerity plus an excellent voice with perfect dictation make this j rated as highly superior. Superior ratings were awarded Lola Wright, soprano solo, "Let My Song Fill Your Heart"; Darrell All-red, All-red, baritone solo, "The Blind Ploughman"; Buron Robinson, tenor ten-or solo, "Roses of Picardy"; and the girls' vocal trio, singing "Serenade". "Ser-enade". Professor Manning stated that Buron had an unusually good tenor voice and that he sang with much ease and gave good tone production; pro-duction; that Darrell had an even flow of tone and excellent diction; dic-tion; that Lola had a very good voice and was outstanding in her appearance, her remarkable balance, bal-ance, appearance and diction. Excellent ratings were given to the Mizzo solo of Joy Stewart, "I Hear a Thrush at Eve" and to an alto solo rendered by Joyce Wood, "From the Land of the Sky Blue Water". |
