Mr. and Mrs. Garff Maxfield, of Wendover,. and their IS months old "nephew, Jackie Lynn Jensen, and Ulrs. Beth Brasher, and sons, Mich-ael and Denny, of Salt Lake City, visited in Delta and Sutherland from Friday to Monday with their families here. Mrs. Clark Bishop has returned to .n61 ?,m,e ? 5sis' after two weeks City, where with her she was sister-in-la- Mrs. Gladys Silberstein, who is recovering from an operation. Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Gardner went t0 alt Lake City last Thursday, and brought their son, Owen, home jfrom the hospital. He had been there for a week, recovering from an operation. Bennett, who will greet friends at an open house Sunday, March 14, in cele- - road at that time, as he did later in Millard County. His parents mov-ed to Deseret in 1877, bringing the young family and household furn-ishings in a wagon, and Mr. Ben-nett says he made the trip carried on a pillow. Mrs. Alice Kinder Bennett was born in Juab, Utah, Jan. 6, 1881, and her early life was spent in Oasis, where her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Kinder, ran the first hotel. Mr. and Mrs. Bennett were mar-ried March 15, 1898, at Deseret, and in the Manti temple July 19, 1898. They made their home in Deseret, where Mr. Bennett engaged in far-ming and freighting in the early years. In 1926, the family moved to Delta, where their home has been since. They are members of the Delta First ward, where Mr. Bennett is a high priest. Happily wed for fifty years, Mr, and Mrs. T. W. Bennett will be honored at an open house Sunday afternoon at their home, celebrat-ing the occasion. Invitations to call are extended to their many friends, from 2 until 8 p. m. on Sunday aft-ernoon. Mr. and Mrs. Bennett have ten living children, 31 grandchildren, and 7 all of whom are making plans to be with them for Sunday's party. Their children are William H. Bennett, Magna; Orvil J., Carl N., Mrs. Fern B. Day, Clemont, K. J., and R. Max Bennett, of Delta; Thelma L. Bliss, Garfield; Reva Watts, Ray, Arizona, and Orin Z. Bennett, St. George. T. W. Bennett was born in Mur-ray, May 9, 1876, a son of Joshua and Isabelle Jane Holt Bennett. His father was working on the rail-- 1 Engagement E Announced Mr. and Mrs. Cloy Broderick an-nounce the engagement of their daughter, Lenore, to Boyd L. Bun-- j ker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lamond Bunker. The wedding date will be set later. Mr. and Mrs. Edmond Wies and family, Betty Wies and Richard Peterson, are spending several days this week in Salt Lake City and Ogden. On Thursday they attend-ed funeral services in Ogden for John William Gibson, old church and civic leader in Utah, who died Monday. i r. ' Clasis Warcl IJom E'eSirisag Monday evening the Oasis Ward held a party in honor of the re-tiring bishopric. The evening began with the following program: Community Singing. Prayer was offered by Eugene Memmott. Bits of gossip and jokes were read by Norma Skeem; solo, "Pale Hands" and encore "Serenade of the Bells", sung by Norman Sjostrom, ac-companied by Carole Warnick; a skit Bishopric meeting held a few months ago; the cast: Bish-op Clark Bishop, by Eldon Cahoon; 1st counselor, Kelly Hawley, by Lyle Stanworth; 2nd counselor, ,Arlyn Styler, by Berdell Memmott; ward clerk, Enoch Gillen, by Jim Christensen. Bishop Peter H. Peterson present-ed the guests of honor with tokens of appreciation in behalf of the ward. The rest of the evening was spent in dancing. nCake and ice cream was served. A good time was enjoyed. Marriage Is Annesinced Mr. and Mrs. Giles McDonald announce the marriage of their daughter, Virginia, to Jimmie Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Earl Smith of Lynndyl. The cere-mony was performed Dec. 2, 1947. The bride is a Hinckley High School senior, where she has been active in student body activities. She was the year book queen this year. The groom is a graduate of West Side High School of Salt Lake City, and served three years in the Navy in the South Pacific area. He is now employed by the Union Pacific at Milford. A wedding dance is planned for April. Mr. Snow led sev-eral yells and talked to the school about the ability of the team. Har-l- o Mortensen and Ladd Black also talked a few minutes. They all ex-pressed confidence in our team and felt no qualms about the outcome of the game with Cedar City on Friday night. The Delta High Track squad of-ficially started the track season Monday afternoon by donning their spiked shoes and short trunks and trotting around the oval track two times and then resting for 40 minutes. There will be two com-petitive track meets in early April, the first on the 9th and the second on the 16th. These are county meets and wilL include Delta, Hin-ckley, and Fillmore. One of the meets will be in Delta, and the other in Fillmore. Tuesday morning classes were shortened 15 minutes each and a social was held in the gymnasium for 45 minutes. Mr. Ward Moody called the dance, and specified when it was to be a clap dance, whether it was boys choice or girl's choice, and also the grand right and left to get everyone dancing. On Tuesday afternoon the Next Year's Basketball team played the Seniors who were on this year's team; the next year's team beat the Seniors 4 points, the score be-ing 32 to 28. Is Surprised On Birthday A. L. Broderick received several surprises on Feb. 27, the occasion being his birthday. First, his sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Larson, and friends, Mr. and Mrs. Alma Jorgenson and Mrs. Jennie Maxfield, drove over from Gunni-son for a surprise visit that day. And that evening all of his family in town1 gathered at the home for a birthday dinner and party. Gives Party For Husband Mrs. Gene Walker gave a party Tuesday evening, in honor of her husband's birthday. Those present to enjoy card games and were: The host and hostess, Golden Warnick, Miss Mar-gie Jensen, Dale Johnson, Mr and Mrs. Keith Dalton, Mr. and Mrs. Neil Bishop, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Riding. Miss Marjorie Jeffery, daughter of Bishop and Mrs. Wallace Jeffery, who is attending Dixie College at St. George, has been elected presi-dent of Lambda Delta Sigma for next year. liookettes 3Ieet For Club Party The Rookettes held a club meet-ing on Thursday night, with Mrs. LaPreal Morfcensen as hostess, for aa evening at dinner and cards. Present were Neva Robinson, Rae Huff, Beulah Bassett, Ruby Bish-op, Jetta Maxfield, Vesta Cahoon, Merle Crafts, Barbara Spendlove and Lorna Bunker, Rookettes, and Dorothy Steele, Fern Mortensen, and Vi Mortensen, guests that ev-ening. At the Rook table high score went to Ruby Bishop, second high to Lorna Bunker, and low to Bar-bara Spendlove. Fntertains At Country Club Mrs. Lois Hinckley entertained the Country Club at her home on Monday evening, serving hot din-ner at eight o'clock to club mem-bers, Dorothy Steele, Verna Shep-herd, Rayda Knight, Lois Maxfield, Fern Mortensen, Eleanor Roberts, LaPreal Mortensen, June Reid and Vi Mortensen, and guests, Kath-ry- n Boothe and May Holman. Aft-er dinner bridge was played, at which prizes for high scores were won by Dorothy Steele and Verna Shepherd, and low by Kathryn Boothe. Among those who attended ses-sions at Leadership Week at the BYU last weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Glen Rawlinson, Mrs. Grant Bishop, Mrs. Marvin Moody, Mrs. Warren Henderson, Mrs. Will Kill-pac- k, Mrs. LeGrande Black, Mrs. Ruth Robinson, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. EMns, M. Ward Moody, Frank Law, and E. Eugene Gardner. Mr. and Mrs. Clark Bliss and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Reid made a trip to Provo Saturday, returning that night. Leland Winward Jr. and John Noble, who are attending the BYU, spent the weekend in Delta, guests of Mr. and Mrs. Edmond Wies. Calls front Texas Dwight Church made a telephone call Tuesday night from San An-tonio, Texas, and talked to his mother, Mrs. George Church, in Delta, assuring her of his well-bein- Dwight enlisted recently in the U. S. air force, and is now station-ed at San Antonio, where he keeps busy and interested. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Henrie and son, Fondd Henrie, returned to Del-ta a week ago (on the day we had the blizzard, from California, where they had spent two months travel-ling in the sunshine. This is the second winter Mr. and Mrs. Henrie have spent in this fashion, living in their trailer house as they travel. The coldest temperature they en-countered this year was 28 above. They visited in Hollywood, San Diego, and also in Yuma, Phoenix and Mesa, Arizona. j ISINCKLEY .... Harriet Spendlove Mr. George Talbot went to Salt Lake City Sunday and was oper-ated on for stomach ulcers Monday. Cluff Talbot went to Salt Lake City Wednesday to visit him. His wife is staying ther? while he is in the hospital; ' Bertha Love was a Salt Lake City visitor Sunday and Monday, e Mr. and Mrs. George Ekin's and Mr. and Mrs. Dana Pratt went to Provo Saturday. Some of them at-tended Leadership Week meetings while there. Three parties were held this week for the younger members of the town. Sharan Hardy entertained at a birthday party Sunday for her daughter, Sharan; Wynnie Wright entertained Saturday for her son, Elwyn, with many little friends attending, and Mrs. David Stevens entertained in honor of her daugh-ter, Elaine, having a group of fri-ends to her birthday party. Thursday night Mrs. Helen Shurt-lif- f entertained the Rook Club at her home, where dinner was served before card playing. Mr. and Mrs. Carlos Bishop have returned to Hinckley to spend the spring and summer after spending two quarters at school at the B. A. C. in Cedar City. Melvin Hepworth, who has been attending school in Logan has re-turned home for the spring and summer. Max Stewart was a Hinckley vis-itor this week, visiting with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nephi Stew-art. Mrs. Beulah Black spent part of the week in Provo and Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Dee Stevens, who have been living near the Sevier River Bridge in the Allred home, hav purchased the John Pratt home in Hinckley and have occupied it now. In Sunday School the two and one-ha- lf minute talks were given by Bill Davis and Dorothy Theo-bald. In Mutual Tuesday evening the opening prayer was offered by Ger-aldi- Black, with the inspirational talk being given by Kathryn Ekins. Lyla Rae Talbot sang a vocal solo, "An Old Fashioned Garden." The policy of the mutual this year is to give as many young people a chance to participate in opening exercises as is possible. A special program was given Sunday evening by the Relief So-ciety.
