Three different holidays may be observed giving you who adore party "fuss" and festivities every excuse in the world for . . . giving a party. Decorations will vary, of course, according to the occasion, but the all-important phase will still be the food you'll want something very different and very "holiday" in appearance and taste. For this month, rich in patriotic significance, why not try one or both of the following follow-ing suggestions: MARTHA WASHINGTON CAKE Temp. 350' Time 25-30 mln. 1. Combine . ...2 egg yolks 1 t. grated lemon rind c cold water 2. Gradually add, beating well after each addition .94 c. sugar 8. Sift together three times 1 c lifted cake floor 1 t. baking powder Vi t. ialt 4. Add all at once to the egg mixture and stir only enough to mix. 6. Beat until stiff.... 2 egg whites 6. Add and continue beating until stiff enough to stand in peaks 1 t. lemon Juice 2 tb. sugar 7. Add to flour mixture and fold together. 8. Turn into two ungrensed, deep 8-inch layer tins and bake. 9. Remove from pans when cold. Spread Lemon Cream Filling between layers. 10. Decorate the top with powdered sugar. This is best done by placing a paper doilie on top. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Carefully remove the doilie. The pattern will remain. FLUFFY ICING 1. Combine.-.. 3 egg whites 94 c. sugar 6 tb. light corn syrup V, t. salt Place in top of double boiler over rapidly boiling water and beat with rotary beater beat-er for 4 to 6 minutes until mixture stands in soft mounds. 8. Remove from boiling water and cool. 4. Adi 1 t. vanilla fi. Continue beating until frosting stands in peaks. 6. Spread on cooled layers of cake and decorate. I AMERICAN REVOLUTION j CAKE Temp. 35 Time 30 min. 1. Cream c. butter 2. Work in iya c. sugar 3. Sift together .2Vi c. sifted cake flour 3 t. baking powder V2 t. salt 4. Beat stiffly 4 egg whites 5. Add dry ingredients in-gredients and, v egg whites alternately by ' thirds with 1 c. cold water 1 t. vanilla ' 6. Bake In two 9-inch layer pans which have been greased, lined with waxed paper, then greased and floured again. 7. Frost with Fluffy Icing. 8. Color some of the icing red and use it together with Mnraschino Cherries to decorate the cake as a drum. Top with four small American Flags. LEMON CREAM SAUCE AND FILLING 1. Combine 5 tb. flour 1 c sugar 1. Add and mix thoroughly L..1 egar, beaten c. lemon juics c. water ii tb. butter 8. Cook ten minutes. Btirrins constantly. 4. Chill and add 1 t. grated lemon rind c. cream whipped B. Use half of the filling to spread between layers of the cake. 6. Add to the other half 94 c cream, whipped 7. Use as sauce. |
