Show FORMER WEST SIDE HIGH SCHOOL STARS WILL CAST THEIR LOT WITH U. A. C. Threo former Salt Lake West Side High stars will attend tho V A. C this year. Thoy aro Lcs Jarvls, Percy Hansen and Stanloy Johnson. Whllo attending tho West Sldo theso athletes ath-letes took part in all four branches of athletics. Johnson was perhaps tho most prominent. During his threo years at school ho was recognized ns one of the best in tho state. In 1015 h was awarded tho Fred C. Richmond medal for being tho best all round athlete In the two Salt Lako high schools. Ho won four letters In both his third and fourth years nt school. In football ho won a place on tho all-star all-star team as a tackle and was captain cap-tain and center of tho basketball team In 101C when tho West Side won tho division chnmplonshlp. In track Johnson won fame as a high Jumper, broad Jumper and sprinter and could alwavs get a point In tho shot put and discus throw. Tho "Svvcdo" was nlso a star In baseball, being ono of tho best hurlers tho school ever had. Jarvls, although small, was fast and scrappy enough to win a place on tho teams. In football ho played as a half-back. Ho mado his letter tho ear tho West Sldo won tho state championship. This was tho jear that tho school had a fast back field Including Stlefel, Hansen, Clavvson, Jarvls and Conkwrlght. In basketball basket-ball ho was a guard, In track a hurl-er hurl-er and In baseball an outfielder. Percy Hansen was nicknamed "Speed" Hansen whllo attending tho U. of U. last year. It was because of his speed that ho was such a vnlu-ablo vnlu-ablo man to Coach Richardson. Hanson Han-son shono brightest on tho cinder path. Ho could run tho century closo to ton seconds. Ho proved to bo ono of tho fastest halfbacks that tho school ovor had. In basketball ho played forward and In baseball ho held down tho Initial sack. |
