Show "STANDARD WAY" BEING ADVOCATED AS ROUTE TO BEAR LAKE VALLEY Ogden Business Interests Would Have Anto Travel to the Rich County Lake Avoid Passing Through Logan Canyon. ' Tho work on the Logan Canyon road, which has Just begun, has not been stated too soon, It ono can judgo from tho tono of articles printed print-ed In tho Ogden Standard of Saturday Satur-day evening as to what tho Ogden business Interests intend to do about a route to Bear lako. A few das ago an automobile party of Ogden business men went to Bear lako by way of Ogden can-von, can-von, Beaver, and Blacksmith Fork routo and returned homo bubbling over with enthusiasm for that routo to tho lako from Ogden, and if tho Logan routo is to bo travelod at nil, it can bo traveled on tho return trip. They boost tho road as being a3 good, It not better than tho Logan road, but say they havo eight miles of bad road with a fow high centers. Tho fact is that Cacho county has spent a large sum of money to find tho best routo to the lako and for tho past two years has had practically practical-ly tho only road to tho lako worth while. Engineers aro now busy making mak-ing surveys and estimates for widening widen-ing the road Into a boulevard. Th3 road through Blacksmith Fork, especially es-pecially through tho Danish Dugway pass, was considered out of tho question ques-tion on account of tho great expenditure expendi-ture of money It would tako to make It a passable road for automobiles. Engineers' estimates as to cost wero almost prohibitive. Tho Ogden business men see an opportunity to tap tho Rich county and Randolph territories, and of courso aro altvo at all times to their business Interests. If thoy are anxious to get a routo through tho Ogden canyon, why don't thoy start a campaign for a better highway? Cacho county has done her part to build a road to Paradiso and Avon, that is ono of tho best turnpikes to bo fouhd anywhere It is to bo hoped that Cacho and Rich county officials will not bo taken Into a scheme that Is entirely without merit, when It It comes to the expenditure of large sums of monoy for the "Standard Way" to Bear lake. Tho only feasible feasi-ble highway for our officials to consider con-sider now Is the ono through Logan canyon, and If tho Weber county officials of-ficials aro really sincere in wanting a canyon exit from Ogden, they should forget the Idea of leaving Logan Lo-gan off tho map, and join Cacho In making tho "Avon Wav" the route to Cacho and Dear lake. A good road can then bo had at little cost. Within another year over $70,000 will havo been expended on our canyon can-yon road. It will bo widened to 1G feet from the mouth of Logan canyon to Garden City. A llttlo publicity setting forth the real facts with reference ref-erence to the advantages to bo obtained ob-tained from tho various routes will show clearly that tho Logan canyon way Is tho onlv real way. Wo have tho road, wo have tho scenery, wo havo tho fishing and wild gamo. True, the routo is a fow miles farther, farth-er, but this can easily bo made up with the advantages to be had on better bet-ter road bods. We havo not high centers on our routo. Let's get behind be-hind tho only feasible route to tho lako from northern Utah points, and mako it a rquto that will attract all comers, whether they bo from Weber Salt Lake, or Box Elder. Only yesterday a committee from tho Commercial Club was in tho canyon can-yon taking photographs of Interesting Interest-ing points along tho Logan canyon road. They can bo used to good advantage In tho publicity that should bo carried on with reference to the reasons why this routo should bo traveled. |
