Show Wrote a Famous Song. Annie M'Vlcur Grant Is u name thnt will always be honored by Scotchmen, as that of tho author of "The Blue Hells of Scotland." She wus born In Glasgow 102 years ago, and as n child wus brought to America by her father, an olllcer of the British army. Her childhood was spent In Albuny. At thirteen she wns taken back to Scotland, Scot-land, and while still a girl became the wife of Rev. Jnmes Grunt. Her husband hus-band died, leaving her with eight children chil-dren to support, and she turned to lit crature as a means of earning u living. She was a prolific writer of both verse nnd prose. Her "Letters from the Mountains," in three volumes, and "Memoirs of an American Lady," In two volumes, were widely reud, and these, and other literary works provided-Mrs. Grunt, with un excellent Income. In-come. Of ull thnt she wrote, however, only her famous song, "The Blue Ue'ils of Scotland," has survived to the present pres-ent generation. Mrs. Grunt died In 1838, at the age of eighty-three. |
