The soldiers ot Fort Douglas played play-ed a game of baseball with tho Lewlston Lew-lston team on Saturday aftornoon. The Lowlston boys received quite a walloping score 10 to 6 in favor of tho soldiers. Miss Sadie Bernhlsol entertained tho Ladles Art and Literary club on Friday afternoon. Mrs. John PoulBen received a letter let-ter from her son, Arnold, who enlisted en-listed In tho U. S. navy. The letter was dated July 11, and gavo an account ac-count of tho explosion on Maro Island. Isl-and. Mr. Poulsen was two and one-halt one-halt miles from where the explosion took place, In which seven people wero killed and many wounded. Just ono magazine was blown up. Mr. Poulsen Btates that of tho nitroglycerine nitro-glycerine and 'smokeless had gone, the entire Island would have been blown up. The concussion was so groat that two and one-half miles away the windows were broken and plaster shaken from the walls, aad shells flying In all directions. Allen and Mr. Floyd Rose wore Lewlston visitors Saturday. Mr. Bertrand Pond leaves Monday for Idaho, the purposo of his visit being to get games with northern towns, as the baseball team Intends to make a tour just after July 24. Mr. Dow Lewis hab purchased an Overland touring car. Mrs. Annlo Egbert Boyle left last week for Chicago, where she will tako a musical course. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Elwood wero Lewlston visitors Sunday. Mrs. Gladys Dale Is visiting with her sister, Mrs. Sarah Leavltt. The stake Relief Society conference confer-ence was held at Lewlston on Thursday. Thurs-day.
