Show Redmen seek state title at tournament this weem ! Cedar High School Redmen basketball team, after an undefeated season in . Region Eight competition have set their sights on another trophy this week as they enter the State Class 2A basketball tournament to be held at the Marriot Center on the BYU campus in Provo. The Redmen will open the 2A division of the tournament today, Thursday, as they take on Morgan High School at 2:30 p.m. It is a rematch of the state championship cham-pionship game of last year when Morgan defeated the Redmen for the State title. This year that defeat is expected to be revenged by the Redmen as they seek the first state title ever in basketball for Cedar High School. Earlier in the season the Redmen defeated Morgan at Provo in the same facility in a preliminary game to a BYU contest. The stale tournament is an eight team affair. However, a joint eight team tournament will be held with clubs from I the 3A division competing for a state title. first round action in the :iA division was held Wednesday. The 2A clubs open action today and both groups will be battling through Friday and Saturday as they vie for the coveted titles. Other pairings in the 2A opening round pit Richfield against Union at 4:10 p.m. Richfield won the Region Seven crown, but were defeated in the Region tournament tour-nament by Manti this past week (if! to 58. Union comes in as the third place team from Region 9. Lower bracket pairs will pit Moab against Dixie at (i:.'W p.m. and Wasatch ' and Manti will clash at 8:10 p.m. Moab comes in as the first place team from Region 10 while the Flyers are second place finishers in Region Eight. Wasatch, pegged as one of the early tournament favorites captured the Region 9 championship. Manti finished second in Region Seven action, but appear to be coming on strong on the basis of their win Saturday over Richfield. |
