Show 8th Graders lose to Moapa Jayvees The Cedar 8th grade came into this 10th and final game of the season, with a 9-0 record, looking for an upset victory over a 9th grade team from Moapa. Outsized on the floor the Cedar Team none the less was able to lead most of the game; ahead two times by 7 point margins. The score at half time was Cedar 31 and Moapa 24. In the second half Cedar went cold from the field and Moapa surged to the lead on some fine outside shooting, and led after three quarters 44-41. In the final quarter Cedar overcame a 7 point deficit and took a 5 point lead with one minute 30 seconds to play. Hut it wasn't to be as Cedar turned the ball over several times and a foul followed by a technical foul resulted in Moapa taking a one point lead. With two seconds to go Cedar was fouled and at the line shooting a one and one. The shoot was in and out with Moapa controlling the ball to win the game 56-55. Credit must be given to Cedar 8th grade crew for a great effort against a 9th grade opponent that was much bigger. Cedar's leading scorer was Craig Jensen with 32 points, followed by Brent Slack and Zack Burns with 9 and 8 points respectively. Cedar 8th grade completed a great season scoring nine victories vic-tories against one defeat, (all nine victories were over 8th grade teams). Over the season Cedar averaged 68 points per game to 44 points per game for the opposition. op-position. Cedar had three players average in double figures, they were led by Craig Jensen with 18 points per game followed by Zack Burns with 14 points and Brent Slack with 12 points. The team consisted of 25 players, two managers and two scorers and these fine students must be commended for their effort and spirit. Managers are Kent Holy oak and Troy Torsell; scorers are Melinda Hull and Sidney Stevens. Team members are: Brent Slack, Craig Jensen, Curtis Hartling, Bob Sperry, Zack Burns, Dave Smith, Brad Brown, Gary Jack, Eric Leavitt, Kurt Nieison, Brian Graf, Brent Crandal, Dallas Jones, Dallen Sawyer, Steve Radmall, Lance Prestwich, Bruce Hiskey, Brad Wright, Kent Wade, Eric Michie, Harold Beecham, Drew Mathews, Joe Gibilterra, and Jerry Manzione. All the above are Cedar Jr. High 8th graders. |
