Show Kanab downs Rams 35-12 in final game of season by Dennis Lowder The Parowan Rams closed out their 1973 football season on a losing note last Friday night as the Kanab Cowboys came to town intent on a berth 'In the state quarterfinals and proceeded to sock it to the injury riddled Ramss 35-12. Three key disabled seniors, Bill Tincher, Craig Pendleton, and Russell Mortensen, had to watch the game from the sidelines due to injuries suffered suf-fered earlier In the season. Thler absence certainly must have been a factor in the final outcome. A win by the Rams would have tied the Parowan boys with the Cowboys for second place In the Class A Division of Region 8. The Kanab victory vic-tory of course erased any possibility poss-ibility of a playoff game with the two hard hitting squads. The Kanab team will now enter en-ter post season play and travel trav-el north to Kamas to take on the North Summitt Braves, last years State Champs. The Cowboys blitzed the Rams early In the first quart er tallying three touchdowns before the spectators had hardly a chance to get comf-ortabley comf-ortabley seated. From that point on the game was evenly matched with both teams scoring two more touchdowns apiece. Junior halfback Phil Her-mansen Her-mansen once again displayed some sensational running scoring on an 11 yard reverse Hermansen also ran 75 yards untouched to paydirt on a slant In pass from freshman quarterback Donald Hulet, another an-other bright spot for Coach Dave Jenson's future charge next year. The play however was nullified because of a Ram penalty. Karl Bentley, seeing his final game as a senior, picked up the other Parowan TD on a 2 yard plunge. Other seniors leaving the squad this year include Eric Bayles, Gary Adams, Kenneth Bentley, Johnny Dalton, and David Robinson. Coach Jenson and his squad are to be congratulated for an outstanding season which gave the Parowan fans many exciting moments. The Rams ended the season with 5 wins and 5 losses and third place in league play behind Beaver and Kanab. |
