One of the confusing problems pro-blems that might develop In this year's municipal election is the fact that some changes have been made In the voting districts in Cedar City this year. Two new districtg have been created, breakoffs from previous previ-ous districts that had become large and cumbersome to operate, oper-ate, plus a division line change in districts 13 and 14. Created were district 15 and 16, which are sections of the city previously previ-ously Included In Districts 5 and 6. In Parowan a third party, the Independent party, has been organized and registered as candidates creating some additional addi-tional interest in that community. commun-ity. Two parties are also vieing for offices In Paragonah and a seperate story lg Included elsewhere else-where on the front page of this issue of the Record. In Cedar City the one factor that could create extreme Interest In-terest and possibly a closer race is the fact that in no case is an Incumbent seeking reelection. re-election. The only possible exception to that Is Kerry Jones, candidate candi-date for Mayor on the Republican Republi-can ticket. Jones has served as a councilman for the past eight years. However, he will seek the higher office of Mayor in this election and will not seek election to his post on the Council. Coun-cil. Other candidates on the Republican Re-publican ticket Include Gam ' Huskinson, an accountant and Robert L Stratton, a school principal and educator. Opposing the Republican slate will be Wesley P. Larsen as the Democratic candidate for Mayor. Larsen, a noted educator ed-ucator and popular professor on the Southern Utah State College campus, heads the ticket. tick-et. His running mates for the council posts are Mary Lunt, a secretary to the president at SUSC and Ramon Prestwlch, rancher and businessman. For the Information of voters Jones and Larsen will oppose each other for the position of Mayor. However, in the race for the two city council posts the candidates do not oppose a specific candidate. Rather the two candidates with the highest high-est number of votes will win the positions. A voter may vote for one candidate for Mayor but any two candidates listed on the ballot, regardless of party, for the position of Councilman.
