Show Jones wins Parowan Stake race for funds Museum was rung for each runner as he arrived at the third Ward Chapel grounds. PAROWAN - A race for funds to pay off a debt on the Parowan Stake Welfare farm, was held July 24th on the road between Summit and Parowan. Wallace Woolsey of Midvalley challenged all Bishoprics and High Council members in the stake, to a race beginning in Su mmit on the church grounds and ending in Parowan in front of the Third Ward Chapel. Woolsey offered to pay $25.00 for each runner who finished in front of him and challenged all of those who did not run to pay $25.00 into the Stake Fund. The runners lined up at 7:00 a.m. with President Grimshaw as the official starter. The race proceeded along the old highway for the seven miles between the two churches. Brent Jones of Enoch breezed in as the official winner in a mere 50 minutes. Jack Young of Summit finished in second place and Woolsey came in third. Kenneth Rowley and Carlisle Hulet of Summit and David Grimshaw of Enoch came on together for 4th place. The bell in the old Rock Church |
