President Braithwaite will also recognize outstanding graduates including two girls, Joan Thompson, Cedar City, and Darlene Carter, Minersville, who will continue nursing programs at Weber State. "The graduates should have no trouble finding jobs in the area" Fay Frahske,, nursing program coordinator, said, noting that positions have been obtained at the Valley View Medical Center, Cedar City; at Dixie Memorial Hospital, St. George; and at the new hospital in Panguitch. The girls will become licensed practical nurses after taking, and passing, the state licensing examination given in October. The year-long program has included, in addition to academic work, practical clinical and hospital experience. "Students have followed a patient from admissions through post-operative care; followed a mother through labor, delivery and post partum; cared for various aged people with a variety of conditions; observed at a doctor's office and at a Crippled Children's Clinic," Frahske said. A field trip to facilities at the American Fork Training School and to Primary Children's and Shriners hospitals in Salt Lake City is planned for this weekejid. Frahske noted that a new class of 21 students is currently enrolled in the course which began this June and that plans for a registered nursing program are underway. |
