Show The Manning-Halverson Oratorio Society formed to honor teachers A significant new musical organization has been formed In Cedar City this week to perpetuate per-petuate the work of William R. Manning and Roy L. Hal-versen, Hal-versen, two dedicated teachers teach-ers and cultural leaders at Southern Utah State College and In the community. The Manning-Halversen Oratorio Or-atorio Society has been established estab-lished to perform several out-standing out-standing musical works in the community each year in the memory of the two men who pioneered classical musical production in this area. Profs. Manning and Halver-sen Halver-sen both began careers at the college in the early 1920's and established an incomparable musical tradition with their yearly productions of Handel's "Messiah" and other great works Including a number of the world's best loved operas. Former students arid collea-gues collea-gues of Profs. Manning and Halversen have banded togeti her to revive the old Cedar City Oratorio Society and rename re-name In honor of their men tors. Anyone who Is Interested in auditioning for participation in the society should contact Dr. Blaine Johnson or Forrest Hunter. Mr. Hunter Is chairman of the new organization. Membership Mem-bership in the society now includes in-cludes Dr. Johnson, Christine Wlnterrose, Janice Olsen, David Da-vid Nyman, Carol Ann Jones, June Larsen, Mary MacDonald, Shirley Roper, Harold Boyce, James Dunaway, Cynthia Dun-away Dun-away and Bessie Dover. |
