Show Commission decides to eliminate flight Diuoiting in Dron Iron County Sheriff Ira Schoppmann was instructed by the County Commission to discontinue dis-continue ratification of night hunting licenses ii the county and to call back those previously previous-ly ratified. The action of the commission came after a lengthy discussion discus-sion with a delegation repre senting County Livestock interests inter-ests requesting assistance. The delegation was given an opportunity to fully present their case, Including the citing of specific Instances where it was believed that losg of livestock live-stock had been directly related to the activity of night hunting. They believed that a serious problem was being created, at least In some degree, indirectly if not directly, by the recently Initiated night hunting program. pro-gram. Sheriff Schoppmann concurred concurr-ed in the deduction presented that law enforcement was more difficult and less effective with the instigation of the new program. pro-gram. County Attorney Hans Q. Chamberlain explained that it was the Department of Wildlife Resources which actually issues the permits, but the permits were not valid until and unless ratified by the Sheriffs Department De-partment The commission acknowledged ac-knowledged that they do not have jurisdiction over the Department De-partment of Wildlife Resources but they do over the county sheriff's department and therefore there-fore could effect a control through the department. Sheriff Schoppmann was asked ask-ed to seek the cooperation of the State department in the action ac-tion taken by the commission. During the course of the reg. ular Commission meeting bids were opened for the installation installa-tion of a sprinkling system at the Iron County Rest Home in Parowan. Five bids were sub-mlttted sub-mlttted and the award was made to Action Fire Sprinkler Co. of Centerville, who submit-ted submit-ted the low bid of $14,343. The bid was $343 above the architects archi-tects estimate. Preliminary work began this week on the project. The Commission further accepted ac-cepted the resignation of Warren War-ren H. Bulloch of Cedar City as the county's representative on the State Water and Power Board. The Commission appointed ap-pointed Clemont Adams of Cedar Ce-dar City to fill the vacancy, determining de-termining that he possessed the background and training to effectively serve the county. Other matters concerning the commission at the semi-monthly meeting Included: A request from Cedar City Mayor for Iron County to sell property owned in cooperation with the city on 100 East in Cedar Ce-dar City. Commissioner Ivan Mattieson reported that Cedar City requested to purchase the Jroperty to meet requirements or a capitoi Improvement program pro-gram for the city. The commission commis-sion indicated that they did not wish to sell all of their interest in-terest in the property but would negotiate only on that portion necessary for the city to meet their current needs. , Meeting with a delegation from Brian Head Resort requesting request-ing that provisions be made by the county for fire fighting equipment to be placed per-mantly per-mantly at the resort. Haldow Christensen, County Civil Defense De-fense director, indicated that through Investigation he had determined that a fire truck was available at the Tooele Army Depot that could be acquired ac-quired free of charge. He indicated, in-dicated, however, that the unit would be given to the county only if certain requirements were met including adequate housing, properly trained crews to operate the equipment and a willingness to use the unit on other areas of reasonable proximity prox-imity to the resort. The delegation indicated that they were prepared to meet those requirements and the commission ordered that the unit be inspected. Further action act-ion is expected based on the Inspection report. A report that the standby power unit for the Emergency Operation Center (EOC) to be located in the new Courthouse in Parowan was Inoperable. The commission approved a recommendation recom-mendation that it be transported transport-ed to Salt Lake City for cost estimates and that based on the estimates to put the equipment Into operation, consideration would then be given as to necessary nec-essary action. The subdivision to be located in Midvaliey will be known as the "Homestead."
