Show SUSC T-birds post two victories over Snow Badgers The Southern Utah State College Thunderbirds boosted their season record to 10 wins and four losses Tuesday afternoon af-ternoon scoring victories in both ends of a double header over the Snow College Badgers of Ephraim. In the opener Kevin Jensen pitched and batted the T-Birds to a 10-4 victory. In the nightcap it was a 4-2 victory for the Coach Cleo Petty crew. Jensen, in posting his second win of the season, against a single loss, gave up just three hits, struck out 11 and walked two. He retired 16 of the last 19 batters he faced. Trailing 3-0 going into the bottom of the fourth Jensen helped himself with a two-run homer and Ed Kristensen, also belted a two-run homer in- the inning to give the T-Birds a lead. In the sixth the T-Birds scored five runs on four hits including a two-run homer by center fielder Tony Zockoll. Three members of the T-Bird squad collected three hits in the game including shortstop Brent Loveless, left fielder Mike Marini and catcher Lowell Anderson. The Birds had 15 hits including the three round trippers. In the second game LaRon Unck picked up his third win of the season with no losses scattering scat-tering seven hits. He picked up a pair of strikeouts and gave up two walks in six innings on the mound. Gary Ashton came on in . relief in the seventh and was credited with a save. The Thunderbirds had seven hits including a first inning homer by Kristensen and a homer by .Tommy Kirk, right fielder, in the sixth to clinch the victory. One member of the T-Bird T-Bird squad had more than one hit - Dave Buffington, center fielder, who collected two in the seven inning contest. |
