The first session begins at 9:30 a.m. on June 5, "City Day," when Cedar City Mayor Jack Sawyers and other city officials discuss local government. On June 6, "County Day," Iron County officials will explain the workings of their level of government at 9:15 a.m. and a meeting beginning at 1:15 p. m. on June 7, "State Day," several state officials will visit SUSC to discuss the essentials of state organization and operation. All three general assemblies will be held in the SUSC Auditorium. The 354 girls selected to attend Girls State will arrive at SUSC on June 4 for a week-long training session in the mechanics of the American system of government. "SUSC has hosted Utah Girls State for the past eight years and we're very happy to have the girls on campus for a ninth time,'" H. Ralph Starr, Coordinator of Public Services, said. "The American Legion Auxiliary-sponsored event is traditionally held here the week following graduation. During that time the campus is relatively quiet and the girls can really get into the spirit of Girls State philosophy," Dr. Starr said. |
