Show NEW OFFICERS. The FHA-HERO Club officers were elected for the 1978-79 school year at a recent breakfast meeting. Officers are shown here as they are planning the activities for the coming year. President is Shirley Beal; Vice president is Karen Reeves with Cindy Esplin as State Historian. Other officers in alphabetical order are: Maggie Beal, Tracy Dewsnup, Margaret Foley, Jan Jolley, Gayle Morgan, Cloyd Orton, Julie Robb and Pat Thorley, Club advisor is Mrs. Elizabeth Dewsnup. The club sponsors the Harvest Ball and works on service projects such as the March of Dimes. Students can apply for membership in the fall of the school year. Awards Assembly scheduled tonight Six presentations of special merit will be awarded. These include the introduction of the SUSC Valedictorian, and the presentations of the Booster Award, Prestige Arrow Award, Most Improved Student Award, and an Origination Award. The Thunderbird Awards Assembly, annually held to honor Southern Utah State College students who have made significant contributions con-tributions academically and in co-curricular areas, will be held Thursday evening at SUSC. The public is invited to attend the program which will begin at 8:05 p.m. in the SUSC Auditorium. During the evening several departmental and special awards will be presented according to Paul Pratt, ASSUSC Academic Affairs Coordinator. Galen Rose, former SUSC student body president, will be the master of ceremonies for the semiformal affair. Local award winners include: - In secondary education, nominees for the Pestalozzi Award, Katherine Cowan, Ann L. Decker, Andrea Shirts and Lani Twitchell, Cedar City. -- Physical education awards for the outstanding physical education major, Tom Kingsford, Jr., Cedar City. - Cedar City students Andrea An-drea Shirts and Alan Lewis will vie for the title of the Outstanding Student in Performing Arts and Letters, Let-ters, an award made by the Scheol of Arts and Letters. Physical science nominees include: Robert Piatt, Cedar City. -- Local Life science nominees are Rod Parry, Cedar City and Rich Dalton, Parowan. - The Outstanding Student in Business Administration candidates include Mike Cardon and Craig White, Cedar City. -Ann Decker, Cedar City will vie for the Outstanding Business Education Student award. - The Outstanding Accounting Ac-counting Student might be Morris Wood, Cedar City, a candidate. Several student body awards will be presented at the Thunderbird Awards Assembly. These awards include Man of the Year, Woman of the Year, Personality Per-sonality of the Year, and the overall award for excellence, ex-cellence, the Outstanding Achievement Award. Nominees include Jeff Duncan, Vernal; Tom Gurr, Parowan; Chris Hatch, Loa; Monte Widdison, Bountiful; Rita Kleese, Henrieville; Jan Mayo, Farmington; Liz Simkins, Circleville; Garry Gee, Burley, Idaho; and Cedar City students Larry Hatch, Janice Bickmore, Cyndi Woodbury, Veralynn Coleman, Craig Holyoak, Mark Slack and Roland Snyder. |
