Carnahan, currently serving as associate commissioner for higher education for the Utah Systems of Higher Education was named President of Southern Utah State College in the State Board of Regents. Dr. Carnahan, a native of Idaho, will succeed Dr. Royden C. Braith-waite, Braith-waite, who has announced his retirement at the end of the current fiscal year. Dr. Carnahan will assume his new position July 1, 1978. The Board of Regents selected Dr. Carnahan from five candidates submitted to them from a Search Committee that screened over 100 applicants for the position. Administrative Experience Prior to assuming his position with the Utah System of Higher Education the new SUSC president served for five years as president of Highline College, Midway, Wash. He spent two years as chancellor of the Eastern Iowa Community College District. Davenport, Iowa, prior to that. Additional experience in higher education includes two years as vice president and three years as dean of applied science at Yakima , Valley College, Yakima, Wash. Wash. Additional educational experience ex-perience includes one year as a the Jordon School District; two years as a teacher and principal in the Valley School District, Eden, Idaho; three years as an instructor, in-structor, director, and supervisor of student teachers at the University of Idaho training school. Earns Degrees Educationally he received a B. S. degree from Utah State (Continued on Page 3) (Continued from Pagel) University in 1958 with a vocational agriculture major. Both his master of education and doctor of education degrees were earned at the University of Idaho with specialization in education administration ad-ministration and business and public administration. His post doctoral record includes training in rural development leadership, management training, professional negotiations, and vocational administration. Other Activities He and his wife, the former Colleen Arrott, have four children rainging from 16 to 22 years in age. He spent two years in military services including 15 months in the Far East. He holds (or has held) membership mem-bership in numerous professional organizations. He has been active in Rotary International, Kiwanis, Boy Scouts of America, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Latter-day Saints. |
