I Schoppmann, Nathan Johnson, Robert Morris 1 Baseball Tourney Time in Cedar By Klien Rollo It's been a big week in baseball in Cedar City and there's more to come. Cedar City is hosting a sub-sectional Senior Little League, Sub-Sectional Big League and a Utah State Little League tournament - all this week. For the Big League Cedar City is hosting a two-garrfe double elimination affair that got underway Tuesday night. Clearfield is the opponent and games were played Tuesday and Wednesday evenings with a third game scheduled tonight, if necessary. Winner of that tournament will advance to Scottsdale, Ariz, for the next level of tournament play next week. Big league is composed of young men 16, 17, and 18 years of age. During the summer there has been a four-team league competition with three teams from Cedar and one from , Parowan. Morton Metal won the league championship. - For Senior Little League - boys 13, 14 and 15 years of age - tournament action got underway last week with a six-team district tournament in Cedar City with Dixie walking off with the championship. Three-teams are competing in this double-elimination event and it will in-- in-- elude Dixie, Sunset and Las Vegas, Nev. Games in this tournament also got underway. un-derway. Tuesday and action will continue through Friday evening. Tournament winner will advance to- the next level of play next week at Phoenix, Ariz. Scheduled this evening Thursday, is the third round of action with game time set at 5 p.m. The championship games, or games if necessary, will be Friday. The first game scheduled at 5 p.m., the second, if necessary at 8 p.m. Sa turday it will be Little League action - boys 11 and 12 years of age. Dixie who won the District I tournament held at Fillmore last week, will be challenged by District 2 of northern Utah in a game to be played in Cedar City at 3 p.m. Winner of the contest will advance to San Bernardino, Calif, for the Western Regional finals. All in all there's lots of baseball. c |
