Show Susan Gardner selected to represent BPW Bv Candace L. Ewing Susan Gardner, Young Career Woman of the Cedar City Business & Professional Womens' Club was chosen to represent the State of Utah at the part of the Shupe's heritage being handed down from greatgrandfathers. great-grandfathers. Jim has -passed fiddling on to his wife and six children. The last two weekends of the Bicentennial Festival in Zion w ill be August 21 and 22, when the Bill Evans Dancers and Benschmark West will be on hand. They will be followed by the Capitol English Brass Band and Mark Nelson during the Labor Day holiday period. Exact times and places of these events will be announced as soon as determined. National Convention of BPW Clubs, which is being held in Denver, Colorado July 25-29. Susan is a graduate of Cedar High School and an honor graduate of the University of Utah with a B.S. degree in nursing. She is also a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Sorority. While attending college she was active in church and student affairs. Since returning to Cedar City she has been Public Health Nurse in Iron County, worked at the Southern Utah Clinic, and served as Service Chairman of the American Cancer Society for Iron County. In this capacity, it was her responsibility to visit cancer victims who need help. She is President of District No. 5 of the Utah Nurses Association and as such she is a member of the Advisory Council for the Utah Nurses' Association. At present she is employed as a teacher in the SUSC Dixie Co-operative Nursing Program under the sponsorship of Weber College. The Young Career Woman Program in the BPW Clubs is one I " (H V V )J SUSAN GARDNER in which talented young women of the Community are recognized and honored. Susan competed with entries from Beaver and Milford Clubs at the Spring Conference of the Southern District which was held in Cedar City on May first. Each contestant con-testant gave a five-minute talk on prominent women in our history or the place of women in a Bi-Centennial Year. She was declared winner by the judges. Thus she became the representative of the Southern District at the State Convention of BPW Clubs held in Ogden June 4, 5 and 6th. The representatives , of each District were again required to present their five-minute five-minute talks. By winning this competition, she earned the right to represent the State of Utah at the National Convention. This award is based on personality, per-sonality, poise, knowledge in career field, appearance, activity ac-tivity in community, church, and BPW Club affairs and pr-presentation pr-presentation of address. At the National Convention the Young Career Women will attend a special luncheon to be held in their honor. Her home club of Cedar City is very proud of Susan and congratulate her. |
