Show A "Win is a Must" as Cedar Redmen host Dixie Flyers Friday ) "This is the big one." That's short, sweet, but to the point and explains the situation as concisely as possible. The words are those of Coach Dick Hobbs as he prepares the Cedar High School Redmen to do battle with arch rival Dixie Flyers Friday night. The game will be at Cedar High School gymnasium and is slated for tipoff at 7:30 p.m. The Redmen, posting a 11-5 record for the season, lost to the Flyers in St. George and must win Friday night to garner a share of the Region 11 crown. Last year the two clubs split in regular season play and were forced into a playoff which was held atSt. George. In order to force that playoff the Redmen will have to win Friday night. "The Flyers hold the upper hand with a win already i under their belts," Hobbs suggested. "The worst they could i do is tie even if we defeat them." I But for the Redmen it's a must. The winner in Region 11 has an automatic berth in the State 3A classic. Coach Hobbs feels that his Redmen will be up and ready for the battle. Kerry Cox has been ill early this week but should be back and ready by Friday, Hobbs indicated. Out with serious resperatory problems is sophomore Craig Jenson, who has been used extensively in a relief roll. "Otherwise the Redmen will be physically ready to do battle," Hobbs said. Coach Hobbs is looking for more balanced scoring in the contest. We will have to get some scoring from our guard line if we are to win this one, he suggested. The Flyers have been showing good balance in their scoring efforts in recent outings and Coach Hobbs feels that the Redmen must match that effort if they are to win Friday night. But regardless of what's happened before, how they look on paper, what the record is going into the contest you can never tell what might happen in a Cedar-Dixie clash. Because of that rivalry and because of the uncertainty that always surrounds a game between two schools it is expected that the Cedar High gymnasium will be filled to capacity Friday night anticipating the unexpected. |
