Show Monthly billings reflect jump in rates Cedar City residences will be receiving their first monthly utility bills from the city this week, the bill covers water service, sewer service, and garbage fees for landfill service. Cedar City started monthly bills rather than the usual quarterly billings due to an increase in sewer services, officials said. The sewer service increased because of increase costs of operating a new waste water treatment facility. All residential sewer rates increased from $2.00 per quarter to $2.50 per month. All commercial users will show "substantial increases," in-creases," the city said. For example service stations will increase from about $4.00 per quarter to $15.00 per month. A 20 unit motel would increase from about $12.00 per quarter to $35.00 per month. "The large increase in commercial rates is in accordance with EPA guideline rates and reflects their fair share of operating costs," officials said. "Commercial sewage is typically more difficult tc treat than residential sewage." Minimum billing under the new program will be $2.50 for sewer $4.00 for water and $2.00 for garbage. Every third month water meters will be read and any excess water usage will be reflected on that months bill. City officials indicate the new sewer rates are on the "low end ol state averages." Residential services where treatment plants are ir operation range from $2.50 a month to $7.00 a month, they said. Commercial rates will about equal state averages. A complete list of commercial sewer charges is available from the city office, should any question arise. |
