Show Redmen - Dixie Flyers meet Friday It's a big game this week for the two newest members of Region Six but old time rivals, Cedar and Dixie. The two clubs meet only once this year under the new scheduling program and that game is slated Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Dixie Sun Bowl in St. George. Going into the game the two clubs are both winless in league play, but the Flyers, with a league bye this past week, scored a convincing 36-6 victory over Lehi at Lehi. The two clubs have met mutual opponents in the early going of the 1977 season and the Redmen have come out with the closer scores, although both clubs have suffered losses. Both clubs lost to Springville and both clubs have lost to Spanish Fork. The Redmen defense seems to have a little of the edge--if comparative scores are any indication. Both offenses have sputtered somewhat. Going into the contest against the arch rival Flyers the Redmen have a pair of injuries that could hamper them. Jay Sandberg a starting defensive tackle is probably out for the season. He suffered suf-fered a broken ankle in a roller skating incident. An uncertain factor in the contest will be running back Brad Jackson. Jackson suffered a slight leg injury in the opening game against Pleasant Grove and reinsured rein-sured the leg in the later stages of the game Friday against Spanish Fork. He has a brused thigh and it is questionable whether or not he will see action against the Flyers. For Dixie their offense has centered around Chuck Ence in the quarterback slot although they ahve a fairly strong running attack. Typically the two clubs will enter the match on about equal terms and about equal status in the league standings. Almost anything could happen and probably will. |
