Show A complete set of World Book Encyclopedias were given giv-en to the children as a special study aid. Mrs. Dal by personally person-ally selected the program as a fitting recipient for the gift. The books will bo used by nine children, ages 6 to 16, enrolled in the special school. Through a gift of money made available by the PTA, a set of Childcraft will be added add-ed to the program's library resources. Mrs. Dalby will also al-so furnish those books at a special rate. 1 The students being helped by the program represent Iront .Garfield, Kane, . and Beaver Counties. Most of them have been participating in the residential program since last October. Coordinated by the Utah State Training School and other state and federal agencies, agenc-ies, the program involves a 24-hour-a-day training situation' situa-tion' for the mentally retarded. retard-ed. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each week day, the youngsters young-sters participate in regular school type activity in a special spec-ial facility provided in the Cedar City Junior High School by the Iron County School District. In the afternoon they are returned to their "home," the renovated nurses quarters adjacent to the old Iron County Coun-ty Hospital building. Weekends Week-ends -the children return to their homes. .Teacher and teacher's . aid to these special students are Tom Walker, Milford, and Ar-lene Ar-lene Sperry, Cedar City. "Parents" "Par-ents" to the children are Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Nay. SUSC students help with recreational and physical activities. ac-tivities. Participation from the college is under the direction di-rection of Professors Vern Kupfer and Leslie Jones. Special assistance is given in the program by CTeg;.. SUSC handicapped children program receives gift of books A special gift of books has been presented to the South-em South-em Utah State College handicapped handi-capped children program by Field Enterprises Educational Corporation through its regional re-gional representative, Mrs. Blanch Dalby of Cedar City. |
