Show Stubbs horses run in money at Ely, Nevada meet Two of Parowan's race horse owners, Howard Stubbs, and his son Craig, entered their his son Craig, took their horses to Ely and entered them in the big meet ther last week end, and while not coming up with any wins, both horses ran in the money in the Sunday Sun-day afternoon program. Howard entered his horse, Baau Champ in the feature race of the day, the Governor's Govern-or's Handicap, for a distance of a mile and sixteenth for a purse of $1,000 added. He won fourth in a 'field of six, just a length out of first place. Reports are that all six were bunched together for the entire en-tire distance with no daylight showing between them. Craig's horse, Cover Sand' ran in a six-furlong free-for-all and came in third place. Purse for this and all the regular reg-ular races in a 11-event program, pro-gram, were for $300 purses. Stubbs says the meet, run under the Pari-mutuel program, pro-gram, started at 2 and continued con-tinued until almost 8 p. m., so if you are a racing fan that's the place to go to satisfy sat-isfy your needs for that kind of sport. Stubbs also states that the Ely meet was dominated by Idaho horses with Beaver Co. being well represented, and he adds that many of the horses from that meet will be in Parowan for the Iron County Coun-ty Fair race meet on Saturday Satur-day and Monday.. |
