Show Council considers change in trailer park regulations .sion. I The Council also authorized a call for bids on a .storm sew.er system to be installed in the .southwest section of the city. The need for the system sys-tem has '.come about because of the development of the Valley Val-ley View Medical Center and the area surrounding it. It was pointed out that with the large areas of blackton draining drain-ing onto Altamira Dr. and 75 East has caused many problems pro-blems to home owners and to the city. The new storm sewer sew-er will begin at the Intersection Intersec-tion of 75 East and Altamira Dr. and run into the present system at the corner of Main and Monterey Dr. Representatives of California Californ-ia Pacific Utilities Co. also met with the Council to dis-cuss dis-cuss plans for the beautifi-cation beautifi-cation of the Municipal' Golf Course entailing the relocation reloca-tion of power lines and poles. The company presented a plan that would eliminate all poles in the rough. The poles have proven to be unsightly and hazardous and will bo re , moved early this fall it was ! indicated. I The appointment of HolJ Tears as airport manager va.j y .r also approved by the Council and is already at work. ': It was also announced that Mayor Loren Whetten had been appointed to the Board of Directors of Utah Agencies by Governor Calvin Rampton. Utah Agencies is a group dealing specifically with air ( trawl and air tourism in the state and has in the past dealt only with the Wasatch front areas but this year two appointments outside of this I area have been made, Mayor : Whetten and an appointee from Moab. Whetten indicated that Cedar City has the second largest airport in the state on the basis of air traffic traf-fic and he hopes to help the airport expand and keep pace through his work not only as Mayor, but also on the Board I of Utah Agencies. ; The Cedar City Council met last Thursday, August 21 and took action to correct several important problems in the city. Main topic of the meeting, meet-ing, however, resulted in no action but was tabled- to -en- able the council to study the issue more thoroughly. A public hearing regarding the changing of the zoning ordinance In connection with trailer parks and trailers on personal property was held and the problem discussed at some length by the Council. The city planning and zoning commission had recommend, ed to the city that a change in the ordinance be made that would include the following three changes: 1. that the area ar-ea on the east side of the city from approximately Coal Creek to 4th S. and 150 E. east would be zoned for trailer parks providing that the area was at least 2! a acres and met the other requirements of the city; 2. that travel trailer areas, those dealing ex. clusively with travelers, be allowed al-lowed to operate in Highway Servjce 11,. General Commercial Commerc-ial and Industrial zones as they now exist; 3. that the east side of the city be zoned as to allow double width I trailers to be placed on private pri-vate property the same as a house providing that they are double width, have eves and meet all building code standards stand-ards and also all yard requirements. re-quirements. This reccommendation was made by the planning and zoning commission after a very extensive study and also after consultation with planning plan-ning consultant Dale Despain. I The, Council took no action I but will study the matter further and act upon it at a later date. ! Mayor Loren Whetten indicated indi-cated that the severe housing shortage and the nation wide trend to wider and wider use of mobile homes had prompted prompt-ed the study by the commis- |
