Show ACCEPTED FOR AQUATIC SCHOOL. SUSC instructor to attend aquatic school Her swimming career began ' six years ago when she re-1 ceived her first water safety instructor certificate. Since I that time she has taught ' swimming lessons, conducted water shows and swim meets in Grants, N.M., Monticello and Moab, Utah, and at SUSC. She taught the first part of the water safety instructor course at Moab while manager man-ager of the Moab Swim Center. Cent-er. In her sophomore year at SUSC, Mrs. Martin enrolled In the water safety instructor training program under Mr. Adams. In the spring of the same year, 1968, she participated partici-pated in the college swim meet, winning three blue ribbons rib-bons in style swimming and third in synchronized swimming. Mary S. Martin, senior student stu-dent at Southern Utah State College, has been accepted for the National Red Cross Aquatic School at Highlands University at Las Vegas, New Mexico, August 20-30. She is sponsored by the Iron County Red Cross Chapter Chap-ter to receive specialized training as a competitive swimming instructor. She completed a refresher course in water safety instruction in May, 1969 under the direction of Boyd Adams, associate professor pro-fessor of physical education at SUSC. Mr. Adams will also attend the Aquatic School. Mrs. Martin is a daughter of Arch R. Stocks of Moab, Utah and the mother of six children. She enrolled at SUSC three years ago. During the past summer she has worked as the Cedar City girl's recre-1 ation manager. She directed the water show at the municipal munic-ipal swimming pool which completed the summer pro-gram. |
