Show Game leaders make spring deer studies Conservation officers and biologists of the Division of Fish and Game, in cooperation coopera-tion with BLM and Forest Service Ser-vice personnel, are, qurrently engaged in spring deer study activities. , Studies, currently in progress, pro-gress, include reading browse . and pellet-group transects, and range rides to survey gen- eral. range conditions and make trends count The browse transect studies measure the utilization of marked browse plants during winter months. Spring" readings read-ings are compared with fall readings to obtain percent uti-lization uti-lization of new ' growth. 1 Pcl-let-group counts made in the same area give biologists the amount of deer days use on the study plot. Most study areas are on critical deer winter win-ter range. Later this spring, Fish and Game personnel will be making mak-ing doe-fawn counts to determine deter-mine the productivity of the deer herd. ' I All. data collected will . be compiled and analyzed for presentation to the Big Game Board. The board uses the data da-ta collected to aid them in setting set-ting the deer hunts on the 73 deer herd units and sub-units throughout the state. |
